Fittingly, IMF director Christine Lagarde is said to be “no nonsense” . MUA found ”The Truth Talker” to be just that with her preferred language being French.

It was a pleasure to work again with famous photographer, Brigitte Lacombe, who inevitabley captures her subjects in a personal way while showing them in their best light. For people wanting to get into photography or makeup artistry, you will learn a lot on how Ms. Lacombe is able to create a trusting relationship with her subjects through her interview with Charlie Rose.

“Her Royal Highness’ are three words that Making Up America only needed to know how to use one time before. Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York and former Royal Family member was in DC on a book tour several years ago and needed makeup. Technically, the title was relevant only before her divorce from Prince Andrew. Now we flash forward to today and find that the need to be current on the etiquette of how to properly use HRH extends to other clients. Even though Americans do not have a Royal Family, being around some Hollywood actors and Presidential Families comes close to the feeling of working for nobility. Yet, with a Princess, there is a special spark and preconceived idea of a magical fairy tale even for those less inclined to gush over such things.

How do you handle a real life Princess?

With the same care and concern for a commoner, I approached a Princess. Thankfully and rather luckily, the American Way works with modern day royalty. We are all connected and live in this world. Whether you are a Queen or a comman man; a Celebrity Artist or a struggling artist, treating one another with respect and admiration makes life pleasant.

Look for more insightful thoughts on Making Up a Princess at a later date on this blog.

washington post photo by matt mclain/makeup by susan heydt

Lizzie Olsen liked the soft natural light streaming in the windows of the Ritz Carlton Georgetown for her makeup session, which was in preparation for her day of interviews and photoshoots for her upcoming “Martha” et al movie. A makeup artist’s dream come true is to have a subject notice that light is the most important factor when applying a natural look. Ms. Olsen’s knack for knowing what’s important in navigating life may be related to the fact that she is an unknown actor, who waited to burst onto the scene.

Making Up America enjoyed the chance to compare this rising superstar to a former and equally likeable client, Laura Linney (search this blog for the story about her). The two both share an intelligent approach to acting that seems to incorporate the depth of their individual spirits mixed with technique. Neither seemed interested in the spotlight. Both relished in observing people as normal citizens and enjoying their day-to-day adventures. Where they differ may be that Ms. Linney trained primarily on and loves the stage and Ms. Olsen has experienced mostly television and movies. Interestingly, they both probably share the same “psychological age”, which brings kudos to both.

Looking forward to seeing more movies starring both of these women. Maybe someone will cast them together!

Seth Rogen seems like an easy going guy. Unfortunately, MUA didn’t get the chance to experience the humor of this popular actor because the day went on without the use of a makeup artist. Too bad no grooming was necessary for his DC junket. Now we’ll just have to go the the theater next week to see his new movie “50/50″, a comedic look at coping with a friend’s cancer diagnosis. Go to the link above to get a quick laugh and relief from the more serious side of dis(ease).

Looking forward to meeting the younger Olsen. She’s not Mary-Kate or Ashley. The taller sib by 5 inches and rising star, her name is Elizabeth Olsen (pictured above in the long white dress from TEEN VOGUE).

http://www.teenvogue.com/connect/2011/08/sibling-rivalry?currentPage=2

She will be in town for her new movie “Martha Marcy May Marlene” in which she plays the lead character, who is a runaway traumatized by a cult. There is OSCAR buzz around her performance. Elizabeth is making the rounds. Last night she appeared in NYC a day before Fashion Night Out to help promote the new MISSONI line at Target. Making Up America is excited to see the brand accessible to a new market of stylistas.

Presidential hopeful, Jon Huntsman has a dedicated family, who seem poised to make the run for the coveted office. The shoot for the New York Times Magazine was a first for MUA in that I had access to a politician’s family members beyond just their spouses. Happily, the Huntsman family members were a gracious, warm and delightful bunch. Although there is much to learn in the coming days about Mr. Huntsman’s opinions and interests, he appears to be relaxed and surprisingly different than most politicians. Mr. Huntsman is almost unpolitcal in his approach and yet at the same time has a quiet commanding presence. Look for him to get into the first tier soon, especially if his financial backing can compete with the other candidates making a stab at garning the Republican interest. At that point, the race may get tougher for the others to win.

photo by richard burbridge | grooming by susan heydt

As long as he is in the race, Mr. Huntsman has a better than average chance to compete. Because the political atmosphere blows in many directions depending on the time and conditions often out of a candidate’s reach, it’s certainly worth a try to run for President if you’ve got the money and the stamina.

Prom has become a major event that is like a practice round for weddings. Young ladies take Prom as a serious effort. Dresses costing as much as $400.00 are purchased up to 4 months in advance and tagged as uniquely theirs. Hair takes center stage with partial updo’s leading the way. When it comes to the face, makeup artists add a polished look to finish off the entire ensemble.

With emotions running high, when getting ready for Prom it pays to have a professional guide you through the day. Confidence is key. The girls aren’t used to being dressed up and walking in high heels. Add hair, fittings, and accessories and it’s no wonder nerves are raw. Thankfully, with patience and reassurance the emphasis finally leans towards having a fun evening with friends.

Which one of these gorgeous young ladies had their makeup done by Celebrity Makeup Artist Susan Heydt? From left to right (1,2, or 3) leave your choice in comments.
